Information We Collect Automatically.
We may automatically collect the following information about your use of our Site or Services through cookies, web beacons, log files, Java script and other technologies: your domain name; your browser type and operating system; web pages you view; links you click; your IP address; the length of time you visit or use our Site and Services; your location information; and the referring URL, or the webpage that led you to our Site; access time; and a device identifier.
In addition, we may collect information about the pages the products and content you view on sites of our partners. We may combine this information with other information that we have collected about you, including, where applicable, your user name, name, and other personal information. Please see the section “Cookies and Other Tracking Mechanisms” below for more information.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information, including your personal information, for the following purposes:
- To provide our Services to you, to communicate with you about your use of our Services, to respond to your inquiries, and for other customer service purposes.
- To tailor the content and information that we may send or display to you, to offer location customization, and personalized help and instructions, and to otherwise personalize your experiences while using the Site or our Services. We also may use the information that we learn about you to assist us in advertising our Services on third party websites, and advertising third party products and services on our Site.
- For marketing and promotional purposes. For example, we may use your information, such as your email address, to send you news and newsletters, special offers, and promotions, or to otherwise contact you about products or information we think may interest you.
- To better understand how users access and use our Site and Services, both on an aggregated and individualized basis, in order to improve our Site and Services, respond to user desires and preferences, and for other research and analytical purposes (such as analyzing and composing reports on trends). Such reports are aggregated or de-identified so that they cannot reasonably be linked back to any individual, and never include your phone number or SMS/text messaging consent information.
Access to Your Account by GetAssist Staff
From time to time, our authorised staff may access your account without asking you first, for one of the following reasons: (a) to help you with a support issue you have raised; (b) to investigate a dispute involving your account or a transaction on the Site; (c) to investigate suspected abuse, fraud, or violations of our Terms of Use; (d) to comply with a legal obligation such as a subpoena, court order, or lawful data-subject request; or (e) to protect the safety, rights, or property of you, other users, or GetAssist. All such access is recorded, and you can view a record of every staff session against your account at any time in Settings → Security → Access History. Certain actions — including changing your email, phone number, or payment method, deleting your account, transferring funds, or changing your two-factor authentication settings — are prevented server-side and cannot be performed by staff on your behalf.
How We Share Your Information
We may share your information, including personal information, as follows:
- GetAssist Users. Your user name and any information that you post to our Site or Services, may be available to and searchable by other users. You can control whether your post or a community that you create is public or private. You may also be able to share certain information (e.g., name and contact information) with other users through the Service; if you choose to do so, their use of your information is not subject to this Policy. We urge you to use caution when sharing personal information through the Service and Site.
- Affiliates. We may disclose the information we collect from you to our affiliates or subsidiaries — meaning entities that control, are controlled by, or are under common control with GetAssist; however, if we do so, their use and disclosure of your personally identifiable information will be limited to the same purposes for which the information was originally collected and subject to the same confidentiality obligations as GetAssist under this Policy. We do not share your phone number or SMS/text messaging consent information with affiliates or subsidiaries for marketing or promotional purposes.
- Service Providers. We may disclose the information we collect from you to third party vendors, service providers, contractors or agents who perform functions on our behalf; these third parties may be located outside of Canada. Our current subprocessors include: Twilio Inc. (SMS delivery and OTP), SendGrid / Twilio SendGrid (transactional and marketing email), Stripe Inc. (payment processing), Amazon Web Services (hosting and data storage), and Google Analytics (usage analytics). We require all subprocessors to keep your information confidential and to use it only for the purposes for which we engaged them.
- Business Transfers. If we are acquired by or merged with another company, if substantially all of our assets are transferred to another company, or as part of a bankruptcy proceeding, we may transfer the information we have collected from you to the other company.
- In Response to Legal Process. We also may disclose the information we collect from you in order to comply with the law, a judicial proceeding, court order, or other legal process, such as in response to a court order or subpoena.
- To Protect Us and Others. We also may disclose the information we collect from you where we believe it is necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person, violations of our Terms of Use or this Policy, or as evidence in litigation in which GetAssist is involved.
- Aggregate and De-Identified Information. We may share aggregate or de-identified information about users with third parties for marketing, advertising, research or similar purposes. Before sharing such information, we take reasonable measures to ensure that it cannot be re-identified — meaning it cannot reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, to any particular consumer, household, or device. This never includes your phone number or SMS/text messaging consent information.
- Mobile and SMS Data — No Third-Party Sharing. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this Policy, we do not share, sell, rent, or otherwise provide your mobile information (including your phone number) or your SMS/text messaging opt-in or consent information to any third parties or affiliates for any purpose, including marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties.
Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you the Services. After you close your account, we will delete or de-identify your personal information within 90 days, except for information we are required to keep for legitimate business or legal purposes:
- Transactional records (invoices, payment records): 7 years from the date of the transaction, to comply with tax and accounting laws.
- SMS opt-in / opt-out consent records: at least 4 years from the date of your last message, to comply with the TCPA and CASL record-keeping requirements.
- Security and abuse logs (login history, impersonation-session records): 2 years, to protect the safety and integrity of the platform.
- Data required to be retained under a lawful subpoena, court order, or ongoing investigation: for the period specified in that order.
At the end of the applicable retention period, we securely delete or anonymise the information.
Our Use of Cookies and Other Tracking Mechanisms
We and our third party service providers use cookies and other tracking mechanisms to track information about your use of our Site and Services. We may combine this information with other personal information we collect from you (and our third party service providers may do so on our behalf).
Currently, our systems do not recognize browser “do-not-track” requests. However, in accordance with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), we honour opt-out signals sent by your browser through the Global Privacy Control (“GPC”) mechanism. When we detect a GPC signal, we will treat it as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. You may, however, disable certain tracking as discussed in this section (e.g., by disabling cookies).
Cookies.
Cookies are alphanumeric identifiers that we transfer to your computer’s hard drive through your web browser for record-keeping purposes. Some cookies allow us to make it easier for you to navigate our Site and services, while others are used to enable a faster log-in process or to allow us to track your activities at our Site and Service.
Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but if you prefer, you can edit your browser options to block them in the future. The Help portion of the toolbar on most browsers will tell you how to prevent your computer from accepting new cookies, how to have the browser notify you when you receive a new cookie, or how disable cookies altogether. Visitors to our Site who disable cookies will be able to browse certain areas of the Site, but some features may not function.
Clear GIFs, pixel tags and other technologies.
Clear GIFs are tiny graphics with a unique identifier, similar in function to cookies. In contrast to cookies, which are stored on your computer’s hard drive, clear GIFs are embedded invisibly on web pages. We may use clear GIFs (also known as web beacons, web bugs or pixel tags), in connection with our Site, among other things, to track the activities of Site visitors, help us manage content and compile statistics about Site usage.
We or our service providers may also use clear GIFs in HTML emails to our customers to help us track email response rates, identify when our emails are viewed and track whether our emails are forwarded.
Third-party Analytics.
We use third party analytics tools, including Google Analytics, to collect, monitor and analyze this information in order to improve functionality and user-friendliness, and to better tailor the Site and Services to our visitor's needs.
Accordingly, usage data is shared with Google, which has its own privacy policy addressing how it uses such information. We encourage you to review this privacy policy to understand how Google uses such information.
Third-Party Ad Networks.
We use third parties such as network advertisers to display advertisements on our Site, to assist us in displaying advertisements on third party websites, and to evaluate the success of our advertising campaigns.
Network advertisers are third parties that display advertisements based on your visits to our Site as well as other websites. This enables us and these third parties to target advertisements by displaying ads for products and services in which you might be interested.
Third party ad network providers, advertisers, sponsors and/or traffic measurement services may use cookies, JavaScript, web beacons (including clear GIFs), Flash LSOs and other technologies to measure the effectiveness of their ads and to personalize advertising content to you.
These third party cookies and other technologies are governed by each third party’s specific privacy policy, not this one. We may provide these third-party advertisers with information about your usage of our Site and our services, as well as aggregate or non-personally identifiable information about visitors to our Site and users of our service.
You may opt-out of many third-party ad networks, including those operated by members of the Network Advertising Initiative (“NAI”) and the Digital Advertising Alliance (“DAA”).
For more information regarding this practice by NAI members and DAA members, and your choices regarding having this information used by these companies, including how to opt-out of third-party ad networks operated by NAI and DAA members, please visit their respective websites: www.networkadvertising.org/optout_nonppi.asp (NAI) and www.aboutads.info/choices (DAA).
Opting out of one or more NAI member or DAA member networks (many of which will be the same) only means that those members no longer will deliver targeted content or ads to you.
It does not mean you will no longer receive any targeted content or ads on our Site or other websites. You may continue to receive advertisements, for example, based on the particular website that you are viewing.
Also, if your browsers are configured to reject cookies when you visit this opt-out page, or you subsequently erase your cookies, use a different computer or change web browsers, your NAI or DAA opt-out may no longer be effective.
Additional information is available on NAI’s and DAA’s websites accessible by the above links.
User Generated Content
You can post content to our Site or Services, including your comments, reviews, pictures, and any other information. If you post such content, all of the information that you post may be available to other users of our Site and Services.
Your posting may become public and GetAssist cannot prevent such information from being used in a manner that may violate this Policy, the law, or your personal privacy.
Plug-ins and Social Media Widgets
Our Site and Service may include social media features and widgets, such as the Facebook Like button and the "Share this" button, as well as other interactive mini-programs that run on our Site and Services and enable certain features to work (e.g., blogs and comments).
These features may collect your IP address, which page you are visiting on our Site or viewing through the Services, and may set a cookie to enable the feature to function properly and for purposes. These features are displayed on our Site, but are hosted by third parties, and are subject to their own privacy policies, not this one.
Your interactions with these features are governed by the privacy policy of the company providing them.
Third-Party Links
Our Site and Services may contain links to third-party websites. Any access to and use of such linked websites is not governed by this Policy, but instead is governed by the privacy policies of those third party websites.
We are not responsible for the information practices of such third party websites. In addition, our Publishers and Retailers have their own privacy policies, and their use and disclosure of your personal information is subject to their own privacy policies, not this one.
Security of My Personal Information
We have implemented safeguards to protect the information we collect from unauthorized access, use, and disclosure. Please be aware that despite our best efforts, no data security measures can guarantee 100% security.
You should take steps to protect against unauthorized access to your password, phone, and computer by, among other things, signing off after using a shared computer, choosing a robust password that nobody else knows or can easily guess, and keeping your log-in and password private.
We are not responsible for any lost, stolen, or compromised passwords or for any activity on your account via unauthorized password activity.
Information may be stored within and outside Canada and processed by our subprocessors in the United States, the European Union, and other jurisdictions. Where we transfer personal data outside Canada or the European Economic Area, we do so under safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), the UK Addendum, or other lawful transfer mechanisms.
Breach Notification
If a security incident results in the unauthorised access, use, or disclosure of your personal information and creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and, where required, the applicable data protection authority (including the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada under PIPEDA, and any relevant U.S. state Attorney General or EU/UK Data Protection Authority) without unreasonable delay and no later than the period required by applicable law. Our notification will include a description of what happened, the categories of personal information affected, the steps we have taken in response, and the steps you can take to protect yourself.
Access To My Personal Information
You may modify personal information that you have submitted by logging into your account and updating your profile information.
Please note that copies of information that you have updated, modified or deleted may remain viewable in cached and archived pages of the Site for a period of time, and we may maintain copies of such information in our business records.

What Choices Do I Have Regarding Communications From GetAssist?
We may send periodic promotional or informational emails to you, about GetAssist and the Services, and, from time-to-time, about third party products and offers we think may interest you.
You may opt-out of such communications by following the opt-out instructions contained in the e-mail, or by emailing us at privacy@getassist.com.
Please note that it may take up to 10 business days for us to process opt-out requests. If you opt-out of receiving promotional emails from us, we may still send e-mails about your account or any Services you have requested or received from us.
Also, please note that if you take advantage of a third party offer that GetAssist has sent to you, that third party may collect certain information from you, subject to their own privacy policy.
SMS Communications
By providing your phone number when registering for a GetAssist account, you agree to receive recurring transactional text messages (SMS) from GetAssist. These messages may include account verification codes (OTP), security alerts, service notifications, and other information related to your account or use of the GetAssist platform. If you separately opt in to promotional messages, we may also send marketing content.
Message frequency: varies based on your activity. Transactional messages are triggered by your actions or account state. Marketing messages, if you have opted in, are sent no more than 4 times per month.
Message and data rates may apply. Consult your mobile carrier for details on your plan. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Opt out: Reply STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT to any message. You will receive a single confirmation reply, then no further messages of that category. Opting out of transactional SMS (including OTP) may impact your ability to log in or receive time-sensitive account information. Opt-out requests are honoured within 24 hours.
Help: Reply HELP to any message, or contact privacy@getassist.com.
For Canadian users: we comply with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). All commercial electronic messages we send include our identifying information, a functional unsubscribe mechanism, and are sent only with your express or implied consent as defined under CASL. We retain proof of your consent for at least three years after our last message to you.
No third-party sharing. We do not share, sell, rent, or otherwise provide your phone number or SMS/text messaging consent information to any third parties or affiliates for any purpose, including marketing or promotional purposes. Your phone number is transmitted to Twilio Inc. (our SMS delivery provider) and to mobile carriers solely for the purpose of delivering messages you have consented to receive. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties.
Children — Age Restrictions
Our Services are not designed for anyone under 16 (or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction, whichever is higher). If we discover that a user under the applicable age has provided us with personal information, we will delete such information from our systems promptly. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a minor, please contact privacy@getassist.com so we can take corrective action.
